For the first time in nearly two months, the beleaguered pop star had face-to-face contact with sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, during a Saturday morning, court-monitored visit, sources confirm to E! News.
The boys, who have primarily resided at Federline's home in Tarzana since October, were packed into his graytruck by a bodyguard and shuttled to Spears' home on the Studio City- border around 9 a.m.
The visit lasted until noon, at which point the boys were driven back to Federline's, wearing smiles on their faces.
Aside from Spears and a court-appointed monitor, there were several other key personnel on hand, including: Britney's father, Jamie Spears; a Federline security guard; and a lawyer from the Luce Forward law firm, which is handling Britney's conservatorship for Jamie Spears.
According to an insider, the 26-year-old pop star was not permitted to take the boys, ages two and one, into another room without the others watching.
The ground rules for the visitation were hammered out Friday night, by lawyers for Luce Forward and ex-husband.
"None of this would have happened if Jamie Spears had not been involved. That's for sure," Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told E! News Friday. "He gets a lot of credit for helping make this happen. But we've worked very hard with the conservator lawyers, as well, to make this all work."
Federline has had sole custody since October, and Spears hadn't seen Sean and Jayden since Jan. 3, after she refused to allow Federline's bodyguard to pick up the boys after one of her monitored visits and ended up under observation at.
The troubled songstress was stripped of her visitation privileges and has only been allowed to contact the boys by phone, but even those conversations have been few and far between, sources tell E! News.
Spears is not slated to see the boys tomorrow, according to a source, and plans to stay home and watch thein the company of her dad and Adnan Ghalib.

The orchestra swelled just as petite Best Original Song co-winner Marketa Irglova stepped up to the microphone to speak following partner Glen Hansard. The pair won for their tune "Falling Slowly" from the indie musical "Once," but only Hansard gave an acceptance before their moment in the spotlight seemed to be over.
"This is amazing. Make art. Make art. Thanks," he said.
Irglova could barely muster a polite "Thank you" before the orchestra, led by conductor Bill Conti, cut her off. After a commercial break, hostbrought the 19-year-old Czech musician back on stage for a second chance to give an acceptance speech.
She took full advantage.
"The fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this, it's just proof that no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible," Irglova said during take two. "And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream, and don't give up. This song was written from the perspective of hope, and hope, at the end of the day, connects us all, no matter how different we are."
Irglova's second-chance speech lasted just over a minute. She said she was just as surprised as everyone else in the audience about the spontaneous and rare reprieve.
"When I went backstage, they said they were going to have me go back out," Irglova said after the incident. "It was great to get that chance, and I'm very grateful to them for doing that."
Oscar producer Gil Cates said the show director was looking down and queued the music when Hansard finished speaking.
"She was accidentally played off. No one wanted to play her off. ... I asked her to come back. I asked Jon to please bring her back. It was a very emotional moment."

He will be replaced by long-time Warner digital executive Michael Nash.
Digital strategy has become the linchpin for the future of the music business as major companies work frantically to strike deals with new partners on the Web and mobile platforms to boost revenue and stymie piracy.
Warner said it has seen digital revenue grow from a standing start four years ago to $141 million in its fiscal first quarter over the Christmas period, representing 14 percent of the company's total revenue.
Before joining Warner, Zubillaga was a managing director and co-founder of Lexa Partners, a venture capital firm which was part of the investor group that included Thomas H Lee Partners, Bain Capital andEquity Partners and which purchased Warner from in 2004.
Zubillaga, who is a brother-in-law ofChief Executive Edgar Bronfman, said in a statement he is eager to return to his entrepreneurial roots.

LOS ANGELES - was reunited briefly with her sons Saturday, spending about three hours with the two little boys nearly two months after the troubled pop star last saw them.
Spears' father, James, played a key part in making possible the visit with Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, said Elliot Mintz, a spokesman for Spears' ex-husband.
Mintz wouldn't say where the reunion took place or who else was there, butreported that Spears' psychiatrist was present.
Spears had not been allowed to see the boys since Jan. 3, when she refused to return the children after a visitation. Police were called to her home, and a scene ensued that ended with Spears being taken to the hospital. She was hospitalized a second time four weeks later.
The visit came a day after Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan announced that the couple "agreed to a modification of the court's order" that had stripped Spears of her visitation rights.
Spears' parents went toaround the time of her second hospitalization and have pushed to restore visitation rights to help their daughter recover.
A court commissioner gave Federline sole physical and legal custody of the former couple's boys and suspended Spears' visitation rights on Jan. 4.
Leading up the hospitalizations, Spears enaged in bizarre public behavior. Since divorcing Federline in November 2006 she shaved her head, was seen in public without underwear, ran over a celebrity photographer's foot and attacked a vehicle with an umbrella.
I was therefore slightly disappointed when I learned that the track in question had been made 'All from scratch' (as in scratching). Don’t get me wrong, the track itself is a good example of turntablism and the beat is there and.. all that. It’s just not the most exciting cheese on the board (think edam or perhaps a mild cheddar). And to cap it off, at the end of the CD there is a full band version. I thought it was impressive because it was all scratched Mr. Red? Perhaps you should get that red patch seen to and stop scratching it.
If you are into African or World beats this will have you shaking like a shaky thing.
If your thing is trance through rhythm you can lose yourself for hours in the intricate pathways the music follows.
If you 'do’ Indian or temple music then this reaches deep into your soul.
And it isn’t limited to that – tribal or classical or hypermodern, its’ all here.
In the last few years the rise of interest in 'World’ music and African in particular has seen some collaborations and strange bedfellows but it should be noted that this pair have actually been playing together since the early '70’s as part of the Diga Rhythm Band. Hart, percussionist with the Grateful Dead, has had a great number of rhythm and percussion related albums released but this collaboration has been the most productive and now together with Sikiru Adepotu (talking Drum) and Giovanni Hidalgo (Latin percussion) plus Taufiq Qureshi, the sitar of Niladari Kumar and the Sarangi player Dilshad Khan you have musicians from four continents creating music that is rooted in no single place and that is universal in its appeal.
The music is, of course, highly rhythmic in origin but it takes the listener deep into the imagination and memory areas of the brain as well, bringing out long forgotten images of landscapes and our origins.
Each track is unique and each has its own feel – 'Dances With Wood’ is entirely rhythm based, 'Tars’ brings in more of a tone and pulse orientation while the spoken and sung elements of 'Kaluli Groove’ work with electronics and sitar to create a soundscape of mystical intensity: 'Funky Zena’ shrinks the landscape and makes for an almost claustrophobic piece. There isn’t anything here that isn’t deeply satisfying - it really is all good.
If you want fireworks then this isn’t for you, it is far too intense and thoughtful, but if you want music that will send your mind chasing around the inside of your skull while your body moves of its own accord – you need this album.
The whole sound of the album is permeated with the smell of booze and cigarettes, and it’s easy to imagine being in a small, dark lit smoky venue - a setting that we are never likely to see again in this country. The dilemma is that removed from that setting and exposed on record, it comes dangerously close to just becoming background music.
It’s a sparse album with minimal instrumentation and is clearly a showcase for José’s voice. The opening duo of The Dreamer and Velvet lets him set the scene; they’re pretty languid, and just about retain interest. Park Bench People picks up the pace, musically is has a very seventies movie soundtrack feel to it. On Spirits up Above he is joined by Junior Mance and allows him, and the band, to stretch out. The next couple of songs are in a similar vein and the album’s tempo picks up a little. But Winter Wind, Desire and Love by and large return the album to the more contemplative mood of the earlier songs.
The singing and playing are of course impeccable all the way through, but I found it difficult to truly engage with the album. It’s an old cliché, but this album is probably best savoured after midnight with bourbon.
